Building a Website from Scratch: A Practical Project Plan
A website is easier to launch when you treat it as a product project rather than a design exercise. Before choosing a theme or buying a domain, decide who the site serves, what visitors need to do, and who will maintain it after launch. Those answers shape the page structure, technology, content, budget, and support work.
1. Define the outcome
Write a one-sentence goal: generate qualified enquiries, sell a product range, explain a service, showcase work, or publish useful resources. “Tell people about the company” is too vague to guide a sitemap or measure results.
Identify the audience and the questions they ask before acting. What do they need to compare? Which risks or objections need an honest answer? Choose one or two meaningful conversions, such as a completed enquiry form, booking, purchase, or subscription.
2. Choose the right format
