Did NASA really discover a temporary, second moon?

Is a “temporary second moon” really going to orbit the Earth? That’s the claim made in a number of viral social media posts that feature spectacular AI-generated visuals. Spoiler: contrary to these depictions, there is no second moon, but an interesting object, known as a “quasi-moon”, has been identified by scientists. Here’s what we know.
