A founder lesson from discovery calls.
Early on, I assumed the bottleneck was the agent. Smarter models, better prompting, better tools — that was the plan everyone was chasing.
Then I started talking to the developers actually shipping AI products, and a pattern showed up fast. Nobody said "my agent isn't smart enough." They said: "Our product works great for humans. The second an agent touches it, everything falls apart."
Not because the agent is weak. Because the software speaks exactly one language — the user interface. So the agent has to load pages, read screens, click like a person. Slow, expensive, and one redesign away from breaking the whole workflow.
The bottleneck we were all assuming was the agent turned out to be the software. That changed what we're building at HIVE — not a smarter agent, but an honest interface between the products teams already have and the agents they want to run on them.
We're keeping the discovery habit: talk to builders, iterate on what
