Young Washington’s epic ambition clearly exceeded its limited grasp to realize its grand vision. It’s an earnest but cursory exploration of the first US President’s early years as a wannabe British officer in the French & Indian War. Those interested in the subject matter should still check it out and will likely find gratification from its storybook interpretation of the man and the events that defined him, even if those yearning for a fuller, more nuanced and truly epic chronicle of the Founding Father will be left wanting.
