Macworld We’ve been reporting on Apple’s plan to stick cameras on AirPods Pro since summer 2024, believe it or not. It was supposed to happen earlier, but setbacks in Apple Intelligence and Siri delayed them, just like Siri delayed Apple’s new HomePod mini and its push into the smart home market. Now, according to a brief update in Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter at Bloomberg, they could finally be on the way this fall alongside Apple’s other smart home products. Gurman says the original camera-equipped AirPods were developed under the codename B798. Apple frequently develops multiple competing versions of the same product, and in this case, one of the alternative designs was codenamed B790. This B790 version, Gurman reports, appears to be further along, with the code name already referenced in the OS 27 betas and a scheduled launch as early as this fall, barring any further delays.
